To put it plainly, we at Team Back 40 are obsessed with hunting deer. Whether it's mule deer in the scorching heat of August out West, or whitetails in the freezing cold of a Midwest January, you will find us in a treestand or putting on a stalk whenever the deer season is open. We will be bringing you our deer hunting exploits throughout the season with stories, pictures, and video. So stay tuned as you never know when Team Back 40 will score!


What better animal to represent the Back 40 Outdoors deer hunting experience than a dandy whitetail. This deer was taken by Team Back 40 member Scott Sprenger on a DIY (Do It Yourself) hunt in the Big Sky State of Montana. Scott was set up in a river-bottom treestand on a warm, early September evening. This non-typical, velvet bruiser was one of 8 bucks Scott had opportunities at that night. Scott made his early season shooting preparation pay off when the buck gave him a shot opportunity. Scott made a good shot and watched the buck go down in sight.

	This is Jerod's first mule deer. It was taken on a 6 day Bivy hunt along with Kevin. Preparing for the hunt during the pre-season definitely paid off here. Kevin and Jerod lived off their backs for five days, with only the supplies they could carry. After some blown opportunities at some dandy bucks, this doe made the mistake of stepping into Jerod's effective range.
